Memorial Day Observation Ceremony

Friday, May 25, 2018 (9:00am)

Who: All 4th, 5th and 6th grade Band members
Where: Essex Elementary School at approximately 9:00am (rain or shine)
Attire: Students are asked to wear the navy blue band shirt, khaki/beige/stone colored shorts or long pants and
sneakers. Shirts will be given out the week of May 15th. Please note that clean shirts should be returned by Monday, June 5th. A replacement fee of $20 will be necessary if the shirt is not returned.
An example of an instrument lyre.
: Students have the option of either memorizing their music or purchasing a lyre for their instrument to hold their music. Lyres can be purchased at any local music store or Mrs. Wilson has order forms.

Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 28, 2018 (8:30am / Parade begins at 9am)

Who: All 4th, 5th and 6th grade Band members
Where: The Band will perform in the first half of the parade again this year. We will meet at the
Connecticut River Museum at 8:30am. Reminder flyers will be sent out closer to the event. Families should plan to pick children up at the Essex Town Hall as as soon as the ceremony has concluded at approximately 10:15am. Students wishing to continue in the Parade with other organizations are invited to do so at that time.
Attire: The same as the Memorial Day Observation Ceremony above.

Any help parents can offer at any of the mentioned activities would be greatly appreciated. An idea of the help we need:
Marching Band Practice: assistance with band practice outside in the field during the school day. Memorial Day Observation Ceremony: help the band members get ready for the Ceremony. Memorial Day Parade: march in the parade with the students. Equipment that would be of great use: red wagons to carry equipment, water, cups, spray bottles with water.
